about

This hymn comes as a bonus track on the CD, Prayers for a Broken Journey. I'd just finished reading Stephen Lawhead's trilogy about Taliesin, Merlin & Arthur. At that time, standing up for the light meant taking up arms & facing frightening foes. Something in me wanted to shout my own battle cry, really spell out what I'm going to live (or die) for.

lyrics

I'm laying down the jaded years
the weight of all those hidden fears;
I offer this embittered heart,
from disappointments rent apart.
I lay aside the greying sighs
that cloud the vision of my eyes.
From grasping claims and smaller thrones
I lift my spirit to your own!

I rest in you the faults of mine,
the trail that they have left behind,
and as for those who've wounded me,
I'm letting go and walking free!
I'm choosing to delight in grace,
cynicism has no place.
I died upon the cross with you
your resurrection makes me new!

I trust in what I know is true
though culture snarls and slanders you,
and though the enemy may roar
I won't be shaken any more.
For your dear Name has sheltered me,
it breaks the chains and sets us free;
and though all else should fall away,
your rule of Love is here to stay.

And here again I choose to say
that I am living for the Day.
I see You even in this night,
Oh hail the King of Love and Light!
Yes here again I choose to say
that I am living for the Day.
I see You even in this night,
Oh hail the King of Love and Light!
